REGULAR SERVICES

St Devenick’s is open to everyone and you will always receive a warm welcome when you come to a service. The service leader will give clear guidance on what to do and when, and you are free to observe or participate as much as feels comfortable to you. All our services are followed by refreshments and the opportunity to chat if you would like to.

Café Church

All ages come together for Café Church on the first Sunday of the month. Gathered around tables instead of in rows, everyone can get involved and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and café-style snacks while exploring the theme for the day.

Holy Communion

Includes several songs, a talk (usually based on passages read from the Bible), prayers and Communion. Anyone is welcome to receive Communion – you don’t need to be a member of this or any church - just having a genuine desire to know more of Jesus is enough.  It lasts about an hour and a quarter and the service leader will give clear guidance on when to stand or sit.

Morning Worship

Includes most of the same elements as Holy Communion, and has a more flexible structure to allow more time for worship and teaching.

 Holy Communion at 9.00am

The 9.00am service of Holy Communion is an opportunity for worship at the start of the day with a quiet and contemplative feel. Coffee is served afterwards.

Wednesday Holy Communion at 10.30am, followed by Coffee and Cake at 11.15am

Like the 9.00am service on Sunday, this service has prayers but no songs, a short talk, and refreshments afterwards.

Children’s Corner

There is a Children’s Corner in church where young children and their parents or carers can relax during the service with quiet toys and books. Nappy changing facilities are available in both the church and church hall.

Sunday Club

Sunday Club (ages 3-10) meets in the church hall each Sunday during term time at the same time as the morning service in church (10.30am), apart from the first Sunday of the month when we are all together in church for Café Church. The children explore the Bible together through storytelling, games, craft, baking, science, construction, role play and outdoor activities.

Messy Church

Messy Church is an all-age expression of church that encourages families to come together, to make, to eat and to celebrate God. It typically includes a welcome, a long creative time to explore the biblical theme through getting messy; a short celebration time involving stories, prayers, songs and games, and a sit-down meal together at tables. All elements are for people of all ages, adults and children. Messy Church begins at 11.00am and runs concurrently with the 10.30am service in church.

WEDDINGS, CHRISTENINGS AND FUNERALS

Weddings are a time of celebration and commitment. The Rector will meet with you a few times to discuss the wedding service, as well as to explore the Bible’s views on what makes for a healthy and happy marriage relationship. The church is in a very good location for couples hosting wedding receptions at nearby hotels such as Norwood Hall or Ardoe House and with its warm, bright interior is an ideal venue for a wedding. There is a small fee for using the church premises and also for a pianist or organist, but you are welcome to provide your own.

Christening (Baptism)

The arrival of a child into a family is a cause of great joy and some parents want to include their new little one in the family of the church as well. The Rector will meet with you and explain the church’s understanding of baptism and the promises made by the parents and godparents. You would be encouraged to attend the church for at least a couple of services beforehand so we as a congregation could welcome you and you could get to know a little more of the church your child will be baptised into.

Funerals

This is a very sad time in the life of any family. The Rector will help you plan the service and give full pastoral support before and after the funeral. The service can be held in the church and then at Aberdeen Crematorium which is only a short 10 minute car journey away. Alternatively the whole service can also take place at the Crematorium.
